Ink, Tea & Alcohol
Decorative ink drawings with graphite and unconventional materials.
Carne is extremely creative when developing the kind of techniques he uses to create his unique work. Experimentation and playfulness take a key role in his immediately recognisable style.
Carne’s process has been developed from the use of unconventional materials such as tea, brandy and vodka. His fascination with drawing focuses on the manipulation of the drawn line in both abstract and realistic imagery that explores figurative, geometric and floral forms.Since establishing his own studio in 2010, Carne has exhibited in the UK at the London Original Print Fair at the Royal Academy and collaborated with the British photographer Rankin in Hunger Magazine.
Carne Griffiths has developed a unique process that allows chance to play a major part in the creation of his work. Although he incorporates skilful observational drawing in his portraits, it is accompanied by his own interpretation through expressive marks.
The materials he uses are part of the distinct style his work is well known for. More traditional materials such as calligraphy inks and graphite are used alongside other liquids like tea, brandy, and vodka.
Whenever he works, Carne strives to find balance in the image. He juxtaposes loose, intuitive marks with very fine details and patterns to find energy and feeling.
